Introducing

ROO Ultra

Last runner standing in the heart of Montana

A backyard ultra endurance race where the only goal is to keep showing up. One loop every hour. No finish line. No quit button.

What to expect

Roo Ultra is a true backyard ultra experience. You will run a 4.2 mile loop every hour on the hour. When you finish a loop within the hour, you rest until the next start. When you miss the cutoff, your race ends.

Expect long hours, changing weather, running through day and night, and a mental battle that grows deeper with every loop. This race rewards patience, consistency, smart fueling, and the willingness to answer the bell again and again.

You will find a gritty but supportive environment built around community, mutual respect, and shared suffering. Everyone is chasing their own edge.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

Event Location: Bozeman, Montana - exact location released in February 2026

Nearest Airport: Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is the closest major airport and offers the most direct access to the event area.

Driving Distance: Bozeman is centrally located in southwest Montana and is accessible by highway from surrounding regional cities.

CAMP SPACE ASSIGNMENT
Camp spaces are assigned based on registration order. The earlier you register, the closer your designated space will be to the start and finish corral. Space placement is finalized prior to race week.

REFUNDS, TRANSFERS, AND DEFERRALS
ROO Ultra requires significant planning and preparation throughout the year. For that reason, refunds are not offered. Because camp and staging spaces are tied directly to registration order and the event typically reaches capacity, registrations cannot be transferred to another participant. If you are unable to attend, we recommend deferring to a future year. Free deferrals are offered, no questions asked, until approximately one month before race day. Instructions for processing a deferral will be provided. If the event is sold out, interested runners should join the waitlist.

CAMP SPACE ADJUSTMENTS
Requests to camp near a friend can often be accommodated if submitted early, but placement is not guaranteed. Camp positions can only be adjusted backward, not forward. For example, if you are registered earlier than your friend, your space may be moved closer to theirs by shifting you back, while preserving the order of all earlier registrants. The best way to ensure neighboring camp spaces is to register together.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
Camping is not permitted on the race property the night before the event. Once the race begins, racers and spectators may remain on site for the duration of the event within the assigned camp areas.

PARKING
Parking will be available on site for both racers and spectators, with designated areas clearly marked.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
August in Montana is known for warm days and cool nights. Daytime temperatures often range from the upper seventies to low eighties, while overnight lows commonly fall into the upper forties or low fifties. Conditions are generally dry with low humidity and plenty of sunshine. Mountain weather can be unpredictable, and heat spikes, wind, rain showers, or isolated thunderstorms are possible. Participants should be prepared for changing conditions over the course of the event.

AGE GUIDELINES
There is no formal age restriction for this event. Participants should use good judgment. Any minor competing must have a responsible adult present on site for the duration of their run.

SPECTATORS
Spectators are welcome and encouraged. Backyard Ultras thrive on community support and shared experience.

FOOD AND HYDRATION
Basic ultra style snacks and water will be available. Runners are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration strategy and should not rely solely on the race for fuel.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course features wide, well maintained double track trails, dirt roads, and a short field section. There are no paved road segments on the loop.

CAMPERS AND RVS
Campers and RVs are not permitted at the race venue. Vehicles that fit within a standard parking space may park on site, but access to those vehicles during the race will not be available.

PACERS AND ASSISTANCE
Pacers are not allowed under the Backyard Ultra format. Runners may not receive assistance of any kind between the start and finish line, aside from what they are able to carry with them during a lap.
