ROO Last One Standing

      CLANCY, MT - AUGUST 1ST

One 4.2 mile loop. Every hour on the hour.

Finish it in 59 minutes and you get one minute to breathe.

Finish it in 40 minutes and you get 20 minutes to recover.

Finish it in 30 and you sit, wait, and watch it all reset.

Miss the next start and you’re done.
Show up late and you’re out.
Come back after the hour and it doesn’t count.

      The field shrinks every hour.
      Bodies break down.
      Paces slow.
      Decisions get harder.

There is no finish line waiting for you.
      No set distance to chase.
      No medal for participation.

Just a loop. A clock. And a decision.

This ends when one person is left.

And they still have to go out and run one more alone.

      ROO ULTRA COMPETITOR GUIDE

ROO Ultra is a Last Person Standing endurance event where competitors complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains.

Every runner must be at the start line and ready to begin each loop on time. Failure to start the next loop results in a DNF. The final remaining runner who completes a loop alone is declared the winner.

      Event Location

All event activities take place at:

      57 Ponderosa Ranch Road
      Clancy, Montana 59634

This event takes place on private ranch property. Please respect the land, fencing, gates, livestock, property boundaries, and all instructions from race staff.

Cell service may be limited. Please download maps and directions before arriving.

      Course Information

The course will be clearly marked throughout the event.

Competitors will also receive GPS course files that can be loaded onto compatible watches and navigation devices. Course information will be provided prior to race start, and competitors will be walked through key course details on race morning.

Depending on weather and course conditions, there may be two possible course options. If standing water, excessive moisture, or other safety concerns are present, race management may use an alternate course to prioritize runner safety.

Any course changes will be communicated before race start.

      Elevation & Terrain

Elevation Gain: Approximately 250–305 feet of gain per 4.17-mile loop, depending on the final course configuration.

Terrain: A mix of gravel roads, cattle trails, and ranch access roads.

Note: We have two course options available and will make the final route selection based on weather and trail conditions to ensure runner safety.

      Race Format

ROO Ultra follows the backyard ultra format:

      • 4.167-mile loop
      • One loop every hour
      • Every runner starts together
      • Each loop must be completed within the hour
      • Runners must start the next loop on time
      • Failure to start the next loop results in a DNF
      • The final runner to complete a loop alone is the winner

There are no second-place finishers in a backyard ultra. The final runner standing wins. Everyone else receives a DNF.

      Crew Areas

Crew areas will be located near the start/finish area.

      Crews may bring:

      • Canopies
      • Chairs
      • Tables
      • Coolers
      • Nutrition
      • Recovery supplies
      • Personal aid supplies
      • Drop bags

Please keep all crew equipment within your designated area and be respectful of neighboring crews.

If you are crewing yourself, you may set up your own personal aid area with your supplies.

      Self-Supported Race

ROO Ultra is a self-supported race.

Competitors are responsible for their own nutrition, hydration, medical supplies, gear, lighting, clothing, and race support.

Please bring anything you may need, including:

      • Blister care
      • Tape
      • Anti-chafe products
      • Personal medications
      • Tylenol
      • First aid supplies
      • Electrolytes
      • Extra shoes
      • Extra socks
      • Warm layers
      • Rain gear
      • Headlamps
      • Backup batteries

There will be one medical person on-site for emergencies. They will not be providing routine personal care, blister treatment, taping, nutrition management, or individual race maintenance.

The event may have limited backup supplies, but competitors should not rely on the event for personal race support.

      Camping & Overnight Accommodations

      Camping is not available on-site.

Competitors, crews, and spectators may not set up overnight camping tents on the property.

Small camper vans, sprinter vans, truck campers, and compact vehicle setups that fit within a standard parking area are permitted.

      Not permitted:

      • Full-size RVs
      • Pull-behind campers
      • Travel trailers
      • Large motorhomes
      • Tent camping
      • RV hookups
      • Water hookups
      • Sewer hookups
      • Electrical hookups

Crew members who remain on-site overnight may do so within their vehicles or while rotating crew responsibilities.

      Parking & Vehicle Movement

Please park only in designated areas.

      Do not block:

      • Roads
      • Gates
      • Emergency access
      • Ranch operations
      • Crew access areas

Vehicle movement should be limited as much as possible once the race begins. A portion of the course may share ranch roads with vehicle access, so please use extreme caution.

If you leave the property after setting up a crew area, you may be asked to take down your crew setup before departing. You are welcome to return as a spectator.

      Restrooms

Porta-potties will be available on-site throughout the event.

Please help keep facilities clean and notify race staff if supplies need attention.

      Food & Beverage

Food will be available for purchase on-site.

Competitors should still bring their own race nutrition, hydration, electrolytes, and backup fueling options. Do not rely solely on vendor food for race fueling.

      Live Music

Live music will be available Saturday.

As the race progresses into the evening and overnight hours, event activity may be adjusted to respect competitors who are still racing.

      Night Running & Lighting

Any competitor still racing after sunset must have adequate lighting.

      Strongly recommended:

      • Primary headlamp
      • Backup headlamp
      • Spare batteries
      • Handheld light
      • Waist light
      • Reflective gear

Do not assume the course will be lit. Every runner is responsible for their own visibility and safety.

      Quiet Hours & Overnight Racing

This event may continue through the night and potentially into the following day.

Please respect competitors who are still racing by minimizing:

      • Loud conversations
      • Excessive music
      • Vehicle traffic
      • Generator noise
      • Unnecessary disruptions

A respectful overnight environment helps runners continue safely and effectively.

      Generators are allowed.

Please be respectful of nearby competitors and crews. Keep noise to a minimum, especially overnight.

Race management may address generator use if it becomes disruptive or creates a safety concern.

      No campfires are allowed.

      Not permitted:

      • Campfires
      • Fire pits
      • Ground fires
      • Open flames

Please help us protect the ranch and surrounding property.

      Pet Policy

No dogs or pets are permitted on event grounds.

      Please make arrangements before arriving.

      Photography, Videography & Drones

ROO Ultra will have official photographers and videographers on-site.

If a competitor is bringing a personal photographer, videographer, drone operator, or content creator, they must check in with race management.

Drone activity must be approved before flying. This is an outdoor endurance event on private property, and all filming or drone activity needs to be coordinated for safety.

      Weather

      Montana weather can change quickly.

      Prepare for:

      • Heat
      • Cold
      • Wind

      • Dust
      • Sun exposure
      • Large temperature swings

Bring more layers, food, water, batteries, and supplies than you think you need.
